Selkie is passionate about empowering open water swimmers of all abilities to push their personal boundaries. We want to arm you with precisely the right kit to do what you do best, wherever and whenever that may be.
It all started in the summer of 2004 when Selkie’s two founders swam the Henley Royal Regatta course at four in the morning! Not because they are insomniacs – it was the only safe time to do it with all those rowers around. A swimming legend was born in the Henley Classic, and with it the first inklings of a new and pure open water swimming brand.
Not satisfied with pool or triathlon makes, the time had come for a new direction and so a more focused brand was created for open water swimmers.
Back when it all started, swimming in the open water seemed radical and daring. But now we are reclaiming our rivers, lakes and seas, it is all much more accessible. It’s our imagination that holds us back, not our kit.
Be part of a community
But we are more than just a sports brand – we are a community that wants you enjoy the journey with us and do something that is life affirming. Move outside your comfort zone and swim where there is no chlorine to sting your eyes nor black lines to follow.
Join a club
If you are not sure where to begin, we will have a few ideas for you. First and easiest though is to join a club. Have a look at www.openwaterclubs.org.uk and you will find lots of like-minded people keen to share in the fun.
Selkie will be challenging swimmers from around the world to go on their own special swims and to share their experiences. To get your juices flowing, follow Team Selkie later this year when they will attempt to swim around Outstack – the northernmost point of the British Isles.
There is nothing more exhilarating, whatever your experience, in taking part in an organised event. It’s often the culmination of months or even years of practice, so why not set yourself a goal this year? And if you are quick you might even get a place in The Classic – see www.henleyswim.com
